My family believes in the religion of hinduism. In the religion of hinduism, hindu's believe in being reincarnated over and over again after you die. This goes on until you reach an ideal state of mind and you lived a true and pure life. Once this state has been reached in your past life then you do not get reincarnated again, instead you go to the place known as nirvana. Nirvana is known as the best place that you can be and is basically heaven in the sense that it is good and a pleasant resting place for your soul.
Hinduism also tells you how you should live your life, with god as the object to guide your life. You are not supposed to intentionally do harm to another innocent being and you should pray to god often. If you are in need of an object in order to survive, you must pray to lord Vishnu and he will come down to Earth in the form of the being or object required.
Suffering is brought to the world due to evil gods. Some gods wish to bring harm upon the beings set on earth. These gods are opposed by other gods that wish to bring prosperity to beings and oppose these forces. This is shown in the Hindu epic of the Ramayana were Rama (lord Vishnu in disguise) is brought to defeat the evil lord.
To Hindu's the subject of creation gets it's own god. There is a specific god for creating man and that god is lord Brahma. He is the creator of man in the Hindu religion and also creates other things (while Vishnu is the preserver and Shiva is the destroyer).
*His name is Mr. Guru
"Hello Mr. Guru, I hear you are able to answer questions about the universe" said I.
"This is true, what are your questions, please say your most important one first" said Mr. Guru.
"Well Mr. Guru, I would like to know what happens after we die." I said.
"When you die, only your jiva, or physical self, dies and you leave it, whereas your atman, or soul, is forever. You are then tested on how much good karma you have over how much bad karma you have. If you have more good karma then you get reincarnated higher in the caste system, if you have more bad karma then you get reincarnated lower." Mr. Guru responded
"Thank you for that answer. I was also wondering how everything was created." I said.
"Have you ever heard of the Trimurti, it consists of three gods. Those three gods are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Vishnu is the preserver while Shiva is the destroyer. Brahma therefore is the creator of everything and that it who created all of this." Mr. Guru responded.
"Thank you Mr. Guru, now for my final question. How should I live my life?" said I.
"Well everyone should live their lives by following their dharma. Dharma consists of three parts: caste system, stage of life, and yoga. Whatever your caste level is then you must follow what that group does. Your stage of life right now is a student so you should be learning at this point in life. Lastly is your yoga of union with god. Whatever type of yoga you decide to follow, make sure you have a strong union with god." said Mr. Guru
"Thank you Mr. Guru, goodbye." I said.
What was it like to be mindful? Why? Was it hard? Easy? Did you notice any particular thoughts to be repetitive? Be thoughtful and detailed.
Being mindful was a proven challenge for me. It is easier said than done to try to clear your mind from most of your thoughts and not to focus on the ones that pass your mind. It is also not easy to find a completely quiet place in my house so there was always some noise whether it was the parakeets chirping or my sister practicing the cello. This made it especially harder to relax while I was trying to be mindful. Whenever one of these distractions were present during my mindfulness one thought would lead to another until i was totally distracted. Some of the thoughts that crossed my mind as i was trying to relax were mostly stresses of my life. Some of them included upcoming tests, getting my service hours, and remembering to take out the trash. I also thought of the things that I wanted in life. I remember that while I was relaxing, the thought crossed my mind of the lightning winning game 5. I think that Siddhartha had to clear his mind of these things when he went to the forest for all of those years and became a monk. The action of being mindful that the man in the TED talk was explaining was one that does not just happen the first time someone wants to be mindful, it is an art that must be practiced and practiced and practiced. Read the story of the 10 Commandments given to Moses here: Exodus 20 If you were God giving Moses the 10 Commandments all over again, would you change any of them? Who you rearrange, eliminate or add any commandments? Why or why not?
If I was giving Moses the 10 Commandments I would make a change to them before Moses went on to share them with the whole Christian population. The one and only change that I would make in the 10 Commandments is replace "you shall not make idols" with "you shall respect your elders" or something like. I would make this change because I believe that making idols is good for the person because it gives them a reason to work for something and causes them to work harder. I think it should be replaced by respect your elders because elders can give us information that would help us in life because they have lived in this world for more than we have and can give us lessons that we haven't learned yet and can be prepared for. I wouldn't make any other changes because all of the other Commandments seem to make sense to me. The last 5 make sense because those are actions that would hurt the community and in almost no way could help it. Honor your mom and dad makes sense because they raise you and guide you through life when you are young and can't care for yourself so you should respect them after all they do for you. The other three are just God trying to make sure that they stay true to their religion so it makes sense a lot of sense that he would put those in there.
